Pignata Is a performative action that took place around some of the least well known and touristified places on the Adriatic Coasts in Puglia, in the south of Italy. These areas are some of the last standing reservoirs for the Musky Octopus, an essential species that ensures the balance and survival of the whole habitat in shallower waters. Unfortunately this critter suffers the consequences of over-tourism that directly spikes the demand of traditionally prepared fish and the increase of fishing activities in proximity waters, leading to a generalized loss of biodiversity . This action, documented in a short movie, was meant to remind ourselves of this confinement that we are dreaming this species towards, allowing us to choose and explore other forms of locally sourced, more sustainable food. Pignata is a traditional dish in Puglia which concerns of an octopus and tomato stew with potatoes and celery, it is regularly consumed all year round and considered quite nutritious: the action concerned the preparation of this recipe rigorously without octopus while visiting all those places and talking to casual passerby about the possibility of leaving the mollusk in the water.
